Senior Technical Engineer – Operating Systems and Cloud

We´re a company in the forefront of technology and services delivered to our clients world-wide. To take the next step in our growth and development, we´re now seeking for a Senior Technical Engineer – Operating Systems and Cloud for our Malta office.

Areas of responsibility/accountability:

  • Responsible for the various infrastructures environments hosts, Operating systems and platforms (Azure and AWS).
  • Responsible for evaluating the business needs and produce various designs to achieve these goals.
  • Breaking down the goals into action points and milestones including follow-up.
  • Responsible for setting up and maintaining performance system monitoring.
  • Responsible for documentation, knowledge transfer and information sharing, both within the squad and with other relevant departments.
  • Contribute with infrastructure (network, hardware, OS, database administration, security etc) competency.
  • Provides escalated technical support to customers by handling systems-related issues; may provide on-call technical support telephonically and/or electronically.
  • Managing third parties’ services such as Azure and AWS contracts and licences.
  • Analyses and resolves infrastructure deficiencies and conducts testing to enhance performance.
  • Conducts complex projects or phases of significant projects; coordinates the efforts of technical support staff in the performance of assigned projects.
  • Provides technical consultation on current and proposed systems to other teams in the organization.
  • Performs repairs, maintenance and upgrades of existing systems using solutions in accordance with standard operating procedures. Investigates and resolves matters of significance.
  • Provide systems expertise and drive operational best practices.
  • Ensure cost-effective and efficient operations and measures feasibility of various approaches and makes recommendations.

Tasks:

  • Managing third parties’ services such as Azure and AWS contracts and licences. Getting the best values and deals from our contracts.
  • Confirm that we are getting the services we are paying for from third parties.
  • Analyses and resolves infrastructure deficiencies and conducts testing to enhance performance.
  • Conduct moderately complex projects or phases of significant projects; coordinates the efforts of technical support staff in the performance of assigned projects.
  • Provide technical consultation on current and proposed systems to other teams in the organization.
  • Perform repairs, maintenance and upgrades of existing systems using solutions in accordance with standard operating procedures. Investigates and resolves matters of significance.
  • Perform technical assessments of product releases to ensure secure software baselines

Required Skills:

  • Education: Computer science/engineering
  •  5+ years working experience.
  •  Experience in providing Cloud environments (including Microsoft Azure and Amazon Web Services (AWS)).
  •  Experience with Microsoft technologies (SQL Server, IIS, Windows Server, Azure Active Directory and Office 365).
  • Hands-on Experience with Networking, TCP/IP.
  • Monitor and maintain Microsoft Windows and Linux systems.
  •  Server Installation, Maintenance and Configuration.
  • Design and Implementation with high availability.
  •  Linux Server Administration and Configuration.
  • Perform proactive analysis of infrastructure capacity and performance.
  • Perform system backup and recovery.
  •  Develop process automation.
  • Understanding of complex information and requirements.
  • An ability to work to tight deadlines and within constraints.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work under own initiative.
  •  Always ready to help attitude.

Optional:

  •  Expertise in data centre management and data governance will be preferred.
  • Hands-on experience with computer networks, network administration and network installation.
